Two-way Humidity Control
Bóveda Humidipak are the only two-way humidity control for desktop humidors available. Its two-way humidity control constantly responds to the changes in ambient temperature and humidity—as needed—to eliminate all fluctuations and cycles of humidity. This preserves the natural oils, sugars and character in cigars and allows them to improve with age, rather than degrade over time.

All refillable humidification products, on the other hand, are one-way—meaning they emit moisture into the humidor whether it’s needed or not. What It’s Made Of
Based on a well known 100-year old scientific principle called Raoult’s Law, Bóveda consists of a saturated solution of pure water and natural salt that maintains a precise RH in an enclosed environment.

Reverse Osmosis Membrane
Bóveda Humidipacks built-in reverse osmosis membrane provides the same type of filtration that’s used in water purification systems by inhibiting the passage of impurities, ensuring that only pure, clean water-vapor passes through the membrane. Reverse osmosis, also known as hyperfiltration, is the finest filtration known. This process allows the removal of particles as small as ions from a solution – and is capable of rejecting bacteria, salts, sugars, proteins, particles, dyes, and other constituents that commonly emit from the refillable-style humidification products.

Purified Water-Vapor is Guaranteed
Bóveda Humidipacks is the only system on the market that can give you water-vapor that’s guaranteed to be pure – without any chance of developing bacteria, mold, mildew and any other impurities that cause potential off-flavors inherent with refillable devices. Your cigars are exposed only to fresh, clean, purified water-vapor.

In Dry Environments
If the humidity inside the humidor starts to fall below the target humidity percentage printed on each Bóveda packet, the saturated salt solution that’s contained within the reverse osmosis membrane will immediately react by giving off purified water-vapor. Bóveda does this naturally, and rapidly so the variation from the target RH stays within a tolerance of +/- 1-2%

In Humid Environments
If the humidity inside the humidor starts to climb above the target humidity percentage printed on the packet, it will immediately absorb excess water-vapor until the humidity is lowered to the exact humidity target on the packet.

Ready To Use
Each Bóveda packet is ready-to-use when you receive it—there’s no activation needed and it’s completely maintenance-free. You don’t cut or tear the packet open and you don’t fill it or refill it with water.

Can I lay the Bóveda packets directly on top of my cigars?
Yes. Unlike all refillable humidifiers, Bóveda Humidipaks can be placed directly in contact with your cigars without any risk to them whatsoever. And since Bóveda emits the cleanest, most purified water-vapor available, and since they will only emit the perfect amount of water-vapor—not too much and not too little—the cigars that are in direct contact will never get over-humidified.

Do I need to activate the Bóveda packets?
No. Bóveda packets are ready to use when you receive them. All you need to do is take each Bóveda packet out of the clear over-wrap and simply place them inside your desktop humidor and you’re done. That's right, there’s absolutely no work or effort required on your part. By using Bóveda Humidipaks, you don’t have to adjust any valves or try to figure out if you’ve put in too much or not enough water, and you never have to fill or refill your device with water again—ever.

What RH level should I choose?
Choosing the correct Bóveda RH level depends on two factors—(1) the effectiveness of your humidor, and (2) your own personal taste. If you smoke cigars from different countries of origin, our recommendation is to maintain your humidor at 68 to 69%, as this will be a very good level for all types of cigars and blends. Therefore, in order to compensate for the rate of moisture loss that occurs in wood humidors, you will need to choose the Bóveda 72% just to maintain the desired level of 68 to 69%. In non-wood humidors, on the other hand, such as hard plastic or Tupperware, the Bóveda packets will maintain the RH at exactly the level stated on the front of each packet.

How often do I need to replace the Bóveda packets?
As a general rule, every 2-months. When you first receive the packets you'll notice it almost feels as if there's a liquid gel in them. As time goes by, approximately 2 to 4 months, you'll notice the packets begin to feel a harder granular, almost"crunchy" texture inside. That means it's time to re-order.

Like fine wine, cigars are natural products that live, breathe and age. They’re loaded with natural oils and sugars that provide all the character, flavor and the foundation for improving with age. In fact, we even speak of the “marriage” of the wrapper, binder and filler, where the respective oils and sugars contribute to a harmonious whole. To really appreciate the harmony of flavors in fine cigars, they need to age--allowed to mellow and develop the “bloom” that naturally occurs as the oils and sugars mature into the rich, smooth nuanced flavors that were the reason you bought the cigars in the first place.

And like all natural products, they must be cared for properly to fully enjoy the potential the cigar master intended you to have when you actually smoke them. To do that, you need to know some of the basics about cigar care, and indeed, about cigar tobacco.

Tobacco is “hygroscopic”
An important factor is that tobacco is “hygroscopic," meaning it has the characteristic to readily draw moisture from the surrounding environment as well as give up its moisture. Unfortunately, this makes it difficult to maintain the natural oils and sugars contained within the blend.

Humidity Fluctuations and Cycles are Bad for Cigars
The biggest enemies to fine cigars are fluctuations and/or cycles in humidity. The first problem is caused by the environment while the second is caused by the products that attempt to control it.

In other words, humidity fluctuations are caused by the normal changes in ambient temperature and humidity, whereas cycles in humidity are caused when using any refillable humidification device. Both are bad for your cigars. These cycles are eliminated when you use Boveda Humidpaks on a regular basis.

The humidity inside your humidor climbs higher when any refillable device is first filled with water followed by a steady drop in humidity as the water evaporates. During each of these cycles, some of the natural oils and sugars contained within the cigar’s blend dissipate along with the moisture, robbing the cigar of its character, flavor and its foundation for improving with age.

Furthermore, the jolt in humidity that happens when a refillable device is filled with water also create an environment for your humidor to acquire mold, mildew and bacteria. This not only can cause off-flavors in your cigars but can also cause degradation during the aging process.

Should I Remove the Cellophane Wrapper?
It’s a personal choice. The cello physically protects the cigar from handling damage, but it also prevents the cigar from marrying with its neighbors and absorbing character from the cedar lining. So if all the cigars are the same style…e.g. all Connecticut Shade, you may choose remove the cello. But if you have multiple types of cigars in your humidor…perhaps some Maduros, some CT Shade, some Rosado… you might want to keep the cello on so that each type maintains its unique character.

How Long Can I Age Cigars?
For the most part, it’s a matter of conjecture and results will vary with the type and quality of the tobacco. Some folks say up to 10 years, but many collectors including the staff at Cigar Aficionado magazine have tasted pre-embargo Cubans that have aged for over 40 years and they were clearly fantastic. So use your own judgment…Just like cellaring wine, you should taste one every year or so to see how they’re doing. The bottom line? Cigars will improve very nicely with age…but only if they’re stored in a proper aging environment.
