FUENTE CREATES
GOD OF FIRE
BY MICHAEL MORETTI
Excerpt from Cigar Insider. July 13, 2004. Vol. 9, No.8
The Fuente
family has teamed up with Keith Park, owner of Prometheus
International, Inc., to create a limited cigar brand called God of
Fire. The cigars are made by Tabacalera A. Fuente in Dominican
Republic and will be distributed by God of Fire, Inc., a company
wholly owned by Park. The Fuentes own half the brand, Park the other
half.
There will be
two blends under the brand umbrella -- God of Fire by Don Carlos and
God of Fire by Carlito. Don Carlos will be made by Carlos Fuente,
Sr. It is designed to have a silky, sweet taste. Carlos Fuente,
Jr.'s blend will be more powerful. "This is going to be a very small
production, a special production," said Fuente, Jr.
God of Fire
is named after the Greek Titan Prometheus, who, as the myth goes, was
bound to a rock and attacked by an eagle as punishment from the gods
for stealing fire and giving it to man. The main band depicts the
bound Prometheus being attacked. A second, smaller band on each cigar
has the name of the blender and the year in which the cigar was
produced. This year's batch will say "By Don Carlos, 2004" or "By
Carlito, 2004."
"By putting
the year of production on the cigars and boxes," says Park, "we are
enabling cigar smokers to know the age of the cigars. We would like
to add to the sophistication and collect ability of cigar smoking."
This year, God of Fire will be available only in 100 limited-edition
humidors. The cabinet humidors, which can hold 250 to 300 cigars,
will retail for $6,000. They will come with 50 of the Don Carlos
blend and 50 of the Carlito blend. Park said the cigars will be sold
individually in 2005. |
